The last couple of weeks have been very busy for us as we start the return to Triathlon activities.
Speaking to training venues, meetings  with our National Governing – British Triathlon and Welsh Triathlon, writing risk assessments & guidelines, attending online courses for COVID-19 training and having a booking system in place to provide Track and Trace for all members taking part in any of our activities has been very time consuming, but we are getting there.

As an affiliated club to Welsh Triathlon, we will be operating under guidelines issued by Welsh Triathlon and the Welsh Government.
Welsh Triathlon have six ‘Key requirements for Clubs and Coaches’ set out in Section 1 [see below], arranged both for when preparing for activity and delivering activity, which will need to be understood and applied for clubs and coaches to be classed as COVID SECURE

SECTION 1 – Key Requirements for Clubs and Coaches for COVID SECURE Operation
1. All community clubs must appoint a named Covid-19 Officer.
2. All community clubs must develop a Covid-19 Action Plan and Risk Assessment.
3. All clubs and coaches must comply with Welsh Government, and additional local government guidance around social distancing before, during and after activity.
4. All clubs and coaches must capture pre-activity health questionnaires, including participant contact details which can be shared upon request with the Welsh Government’s Test and Trace initiative.
5. Clubs and coaches must ensure everyone at the session maintains good hygiene and that provisions are in place to allow for this.
6. Sessions that include children and young people under the age of 18 should be more meticulously planned to ensure their needs are catered for.

We have all the above in place and will continue to monitor sessions over the coming weeks.  As we introduce new sessions to the club, we will produce COVID specific risk assessments and guidance for all members to ensure we provide a safe environment for members, coaches, volunteers and venue staff.
We have appointed a COVID-19 officer to help with becoming a COVID SECURE club. You might have see the post from Samantha Perrott introducing herself a few weeks ago, any questions you may have or concerns about sessions please direct them to Sam.

Where we are currently  …

You might have seen some activity on the members Facebook group in the last week and here is an update on sessions that have started back.

Junior running track on a Wednesday evening at Cwrt Herbert started back as a trial and it went really well. Thanks to all the juniors and parents who took part and followed the guidance required to put on a safe session.  The trace and track booking system worked well and after applying a tweek to the system it should work how we want it.
This is currently a junior only session, and will be for at least the next 4-6 weeks when we have a review, based on Welsh Government and NGB guidance.

Glynneath Lakes have now reopened for triathlon clubs following extensive meeting with the land owner and the other clubs that share the facility.  Full detail on swimming here and what you need to do is on the clubs Website under Training > Open water swimming.

Pool Swimming. I have a meeting next week to speak to one of our swimming pool operators about return to lane swimming towards the end of August and once I have more info will feed back to club members. We are hoping to keep all the days and times of current swim sessions the same,  but they will take place in Swansea.

Adult Track Sessions. You might have seen a recent poll that Sam Perrott has posted on the members Facebook group for a Friday evening track session for adults in Swansea. As I write this post, its not looking like a popular option so may not go ahead. So there will be no formal track session for adults in the short term.

Coaches are looking at running informal running session at different locations for members to attend, so watch the Facebook group for more information on this.

Group rides, I’m currently waiting on clarification on this and will inform members as soon as we hear something back.

Thank you all for your patience and your cooperation. If you have any queries or concerns please feel free to contact me or a member of the coaching/committee.
