Open water swimming.

We currently have access to Glyn Neath Lakes and is available for members of Celtic Tri to carryout swimming there, once a member has registered with the club.

Other open water venues we use include; the North Dock at Llanelli and sea swimming at Aberavon, Mumbles and Gower. Dates and time of these swims will be posted on the Celtic Tri members Facebook Group.

Open Water Swimming at Glyn Neath lakes
This will be starting on Monday 1st May, NO swimming is allowed to take place until then.

As a club we pay an annual fee to the owner of Glyn Neath lakes. At present this facility is FREE for our club members to swim at.

Any members interested in swimming at Glynneath Lakes will be required to register with the club via the members Facebook group before they can swim.

Registration is now open until May 31st, after this period registration can still be made but there may be a delay in approving them. You must be a paid up Celtic Tri member to register.

As this venue is at a remote location and not managed, the risks on swimming there will fall on the individual. You will be required to sign a disclaimer at time of booking and follow the guidelines set by the owner and the committee of Celtic Tri before swimming there.

All these sessions are currently un-coached and swimmers swim there at own risk.

Suggested open water swimming distances and water temperatures:

  • 11 degrees – 500 metres max swim
  • 12 degrees – up to 1000 metres swim
  • 13 degrees up to 1600 metres swim
  • 14 degrees up to 2000 metres swim
  • 15 degrees and over – 2000 metres +
